Who is Salt?

Good question. I'm gonna take that as a comment... for now.

Who is Salt? Apparently, it's Angelina Jolie acting as a female Russian spy named Evelyn Salt. And she's like a double double double agent or something. (I dunno, I haven't watched the movie yet :S)

Anyways, there's all this hype about not knowing who this Salt is. If you think about it, it's a pretty neat way of advertising - just keeping to the same 'theme line' and sticking it on radio ads, tv ads, pre-movie ads, bus ads, bus stop ads, billboard ads, newspaper ads etc. It's everywhere!

Even MSN is subliminaling messaging the movie, 'Salt'. Here's some examples:
  • Traitor, Hero, Fugitave... Who is Salt?
  • Click here to learn WHO IS SALT?
  • Angelina Jolie stars in SALT. But who is salt?
  • Can't make it on election day, Saturday 21st August? Vote earl- oh wait
Have some posters:

So... Who is Salt? http://whoissalt.com/ Despite the name of the website, it's about the movie.

Until I find out Who is Salt?,

P.S. you can use it in your everyday friends vocab as a 'joke around' phrase!

Major train delays as rail lines closed - SMH

Major train delays as rail lines closed

This kinda affected me, in that all the expresses services from Hornsby to City via Epping were delayed at least 45mins, which included my normal school train, but luckily, I was savied by library duty! so I caught some very earlier train. :D

Damaged overhead wiring near Beecroft forced CityRail to suspended city-bound trains between Hornsby and Epping, leaving travellers on the Northern Line as well as the Newcastle and Central Coast Line with delays of about 45 minutes.
...
A CityRail spokesman said he was not sure what caused the damage to the wiring, but expected repairs to be completed by midday.
...
"Commuters travelling to the city on the Northern Line this morning should leave home early if they can, as major delays are expected. Buses are replacing trains for some stations, but travellers should consider catching a train on the North Shore Line instead, if they are able to travel direct to North Shore Line stations," the spokesman said.

Numbers up for rote learning in maths - SMH

Numbers up for rote learning in maths

Interesting article from the Sydney Morning Herald a friend showed me. And, it's about maths.

"The thing that makes mathematics very, very difficult to learn is if you try to learn rules without any reasons," Professor Stacey said. ''What we need to be able to do is to focus on how we teach children the reasons why those rules work, not just what the rules are.''
...
''Once you know the reasons behind the rules you've then got a lot less to learn because as soon as things start to be connected you don't need to learn them all as separate things,'' she said.

Poketicians

Scratching your head bout the name? Well, it's simple, really, just do the math:
pokemon + politicians = poketicians

It happened during tuts. with a friend of mine called Nick. As usual, our tutorial was talking bout (a) current affairs - and this time it was ELECTION '10. So we had a mini debate on who to trust, who CAN we trust, what's with the boat people and the reason why Mr Copeland couldn't vote. I'm not good a politics, and neither is Nick, soooooooooo made our own fun.

It started off with Nick randomly saying to me Ruddkip. That was the spark. From there, we developed more pokemons and more moves based on the current election ofc... In the end, it kinda endded up like this:

I choose Ruddkip! Ruddkip used working families! It's super effective! John Howard fainted. Ruddkip used Chinese! Pennychu Wong is not affected. Tony Abbott is confused. He hurt himself in his confusion. A wild Gillardude appeared! Gillardude used party steal! Ruddkip fainted.Gillardude used baby kiss. The baby was charmed. To the Pokecenter!

And so we continued choosing pokemon, making imaginary battles, making new moves, and rushing to the pokecenters. It did make the whole tutorial thing much more interesting though... for us 2 at least (Y)

Until either Gillard or Abbott becomes the very best,

Very Muddy Touch Footy

Sup-a-dop-a-lus sup.

Today I had PE! And today we were going to do touch footy.

However, Little Weigall was very very muddy. By Little Weigall I mean the ground we would play on, and by very very muddy I mean so muddy that your shoe would sink 2-3cm if you just stood there.

But PE still had to go on. Our teacher, PRD, would be the ref. Soon, I got my fair share of running with the ball. Despite this, my fair share included 4-5 slips which resulted in me sliding into the mud making my arms and
legs turn all black. =[

The teacher couldn't get enough of it - he was laughing his head off while we slipped and fell into the black mud. He even called out: "Pass it to Matty so he can slip over!" But it was jks coz everyone was having trouble/fun in the mud, and it was just that I fell down the most.

I did score 2 tries though (Y)

At the end of PE, I washed off most of the mud with the cold water from a bubbler.

'Til the next time I play mud touch footy,

How Far is Too Far?

Might as well get this over and done with, in a good way :)

In case you're a complete anti-socialist, there's an election coming up. And when election time comes, you want people voting for YOU, YOU, and nothing but the YOU. And how do you do that? You make hate ads!!!

Hate ads are those political party ads that, instead of promoting what the party stands for e.g. "Moving Forward" or "Stand Up Australia, Stand Up For Real Action", one party disses/bags out/makes fun of the other party. How to identify one? They usually have a black background, the face of the opposition leader, and a very fast speaker at the end.

HOWEVER, I came across an exception :O on the all-so-reliable site YouTube.

Wow. Nothing like those normal boring ads aye!? It's a pretty good parody of 'TimeWarp'. It's got Tony Abbot in his budgie smugglers, John Howard and the 'right wing' joke, and... dunno that sumo-wrestler guy :S

Here's the facts:
australianlabor | August 09, 2010
Does this election feel like a time warp to you? Mr Abbott's only plans are to take Australia back down a time warp of WorkChoices, cuts to health care and education.

Do you prefer the old school hate ads, or should we see more of these types?

Freebie fare day

"Sydney commuters travelled on CityRail trains for free today with rail workers refusing to sell or check tickets as part of an ongoing industrial campaign against RailCorp."
- Matt Sun for mX

AND I CAN GLADLY SAY THAT I WAS PART OF IT :D Well, kinda. Coz I'm a schoolboy, I get 'free' ticket rides to and from school everyday. BUT today was like, full-on no barriers, so there was no need for nobody to buy/show/put-in a ticket. Even those who wanted to buy a ticket anyway were rejected XD No barriers at Museum, no barriers at Town Hall... yeah, those 2 I can confirm. Surprisingly, though, this actually might have worked (the strike, that is). RailCorp lost an estimated $2 million in sales. $2 million!!! in sales!!! That's a lotta tickets... And to think all this was just because of union members wanting to secure a 5% wage rise without staff cuts, and the State Government saying NO, saying that you can't increase it over 2.5%. Check out the pic: all over the CityRail network, you would see open barriers and gates, and those dodgey white sheets of paper with an arrow or a cross on them to indicate direction, but besides that- Oh, and you'll see that stoner Asian guy :L And for the daily commuters to the city, is that shot really from Wynyard station???

I bet everyone in that pic will vote for the MP who will continue to say NO to the union so that they could ride for free everyday. (Y)

What About Me?

Two in one today.

Ads are meant to sell us stuff. And in order to sell stuff, ads try to be interesting, funny or original. Ads also try and drill into the name of the company, the phone number, the slogan etc. One ad that I think works and doesn't make you feel bad when you know there's nothing on tv is the AAMI ads which use the song 'What About Me' and twist the lyrics to fit insurance policies. Everyone knows the AAMI ads. I think they're smart, and they provide a bit of humor in the otherwise boring 3 minutes of non-stop ads on television. (Wow, tricky phrasing there o.O)

Which one do you think is better/funnier?

The Big 3 + 1 + 1

INTERNET IS ALLLLIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEE AGAIN
So let's talk.

Back in the month of July, the biggest news in NBA was LeBron's free-agent-ness. The result was LeBron James AND Chris Bosh joining Dwayne Wade at Miami Heat. They were donned the name "The Big 3". I mean, who hasn't heard of LeBron, Bosh and Wade?

HOWEVER. There is a new "Big 3" + 1 + 1 in the NBA, I think.

Shaquille O'Neal, a three-time NBA Finals MVP and fifteen-time All-Star centre, has signed with the Boston Celtics. The 18-year NBA veteran has led four teams to league titles.

This means that: O'Neal joins a star group that includes forward Kevin Garnett, sharpshooter Ray Allen, playmaker Paul Pierce and top guard Rajon Rondo. This also means that the Celtics could have a very strong starting 5, consisting of Rondo (PG), Allen (SG), Pierce (SF), Garnett (PF) and O'Neal as (C). Almost a dream-team kinda thing.

You can see why the title is 3 + 1 + 1. Coz: the 3 are Allen, Pierce and Garnett, the 1 is Rondo, and the other 1 is O'Neal.

Shaq will add more impact to the NBA season opener on October 26 when the Boston Celtics play host to the Miami Heat. Celtics vs. Heat = those 5 vs. The Big 3. Which means that there could well be at least 8 NBA superstars on the court at one time.

Can't wait for the next season,
