MasterChef Memorable One-Liners [TV Week]

My internet's capped, I've been working on www.madschoolboyz.blogspot.com, and I'm lazy :P

Anyway, mum bought a copy of TV Week magazine coz Adam and Callum were on the cover page. I went through it and saw a section on MasterChef and found some 'Memorable One-Liners' section. See if you remember these:

"That was disgusting... disgustingly good!"
Matt said after tasting Aaron's "smoke on the water" pasta dish.

"Watching Pete put together his tower, it's quite obvious he never had a Lego set."
Jimmy deadpanned as Peter struggled to get his macaroon tower assembled in week 12.

"Poppa Dom."
Matt dubbed fatherly contestant Dominic.

"I didn't make the brulee."
In one memorable comment, Joanne's popularity took a dive.

"Come on, shuck it to me, baby!"
Judge George made most of his oyster terrine pressure test.

"A cat has nine lives, but does Jonathan have 10?"
Aaron said what we were all thinking during Jonathon's final elimination challenge.

"Let's go! Boom, boom, shake the room!"
We're glad George kept this one in his repertoire!

"Who would have thought a lawyer could cook?"
Judge George was blown away by Claire's skills in top 50 week.

"You have to be cooking like a Bollywood dancer."
Hmm... we'll admit we're not entirely sure how a Bollywood dancer cooks, but George certainly thought it would inspire delicious dishes during an Indian invention test.

Oh, and there are 4 aprons in each contestant's wardrobe.

"...going though various levels of MasterChef withdrawal..."

Hey youuuu.

Being a MasterChef fan and a daily-ish reader of mX, I thought this mini-essay by Henry Budd on missing MasterChef was pretty interesting (and so did Dawid and Hadrian). Now, I will read (type) you some extracts from his 'For what it's worth':

"There are going to be several million people around Australia going through various levels of MasterChef withdrawal this week."

So like any addict who finally realizes they need to face their demons, it was with mixed emotions that I had my final MasterChef hit on Sunday night.
One part of me knew it was for the best, but the other was screaming for more.

That is programming equivalent of burnt porridge... and it's even harder to swallow when you've been feasting on the likes of Peter Gilmore's snow egg and Gary Mehigan's black forest cake for the past 14 weeks.

Maybe even Mythbusters on SBS will get a look in.
Tuesday night is a little better with new Top Gear on Nine and Modern Family on 10.
But on Wednesday night the MasterChef withdrawals will surely have me in cold sweat, rocking gently and clutching my knees as I flick between World's Strictest Parents, another Two and a Half Men repeat and episiode 452 of The Simpsons.

How long is it until Junior MasterChef kicks off?

I forgive you, Matt Preston, for showing us your disturbing sex-eyes every time you put a spoon in your mouth. I don't care, George, that some say you look like a pig trough when you eat. Don't leave me Gary.

Henry Budd sums it all up, really...

Sup.

Once again, my mate Dawid has miraculously found something that made us both lol. Not surprisingly, it involves a black guy and is American. But you be the judge. The vids about a guy called Chappelle who reenacts a political campaigning speech by some American-president hopeful.

From the comedy channel:
We're even considering incorporating this BYAH into our day-to-day vocabulary XD

I LOVED THIS SHOW. Probs 3rd best after MasterChef Australia (WATCH FINALS TONIGHT EVVERAAYYYYBODAAAAYYYYYY) and Man vs. Wild. It was the pre-game show during the world cup. Managed to watch the first few eps before I flew overseas, and managed to miss the last few eps while I was overseas :( ANywayz, I'll never get bored of it, and here are some of the highlights [that were conveniently uploaded on YouTube]. Hope you laugh:

CONVERSE 2010 World Cup low cut canvas shoes

Whiiiile I was in HK, I found a converse shoe shop. And while I was in the converse shoe shop, I found a collection of world-cup-themed-converse-low-cut-canvas shoes, which looked unbelievably cool.

CONVERSE design for the 2010 World Cup, in June will launch England, Germany, South Africa, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Nigeria and other low-cylinder eight color shoes. In the tongue and heel can see a sign of the flag.

Btw, I did buy two pairs - Germany [black] and South Africa [green] (L)

MasterChef > Election Debate

I couldn't get over thinking about this when it was mentioned yesterday:

The Australian:

Leaders defer to MasterChef

ALP secretary Karl Bitar confirmed yesterday an agreement had been reached to move the debate from the traditional timeslot of 7.30pm, to 6.30pm, so as not to clash with the season finale of the Ten Network hit show.

The Australian understands the debate will be held at the National Press Club in Canberra and will be moderated by Sky News political editor David Speers.

If the leaders' debate had remained up against MasterChef it would have been a ludicrous programming decision.

Last year, the finale of MasterChef was the year's most watched show, attracting an extraordinary 4.1 million people across the nation.

Sunday's live finale of series two of the ratings juggernaut is likely to attract the same numbers. As the show heads towards its finale, it is pulling in more than 2.3 million people each night in the five capital cities alone.

PAUL MALEY, AMANDA MEADE

ABC News:

Leaders' pressure test moves for MasterChef

Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott will go head-to-head this Sunday night at 6.30pm AEST in the only likely debate of the election campaign.

The debate also had to be moved from its traditional timeslot of 7.30pm to avoid going up against the finale of the highly popular MasterChef program.

Ms Gillard says it is up to voters to choose if they watch the leaders' election debate and does not appear to be concerned by competition for viewers.

"Well, I'm assuming I will neither be dancing nor cooking," she said.

"Australia's a great country and one of the things about it is you get to pick what you want to watch on TV."

BBC News Asia-Pacific:

MasterChef final forces Australia election debate move

Australia's prime ministerial candidates have been forced to move their one and only election debate - because of TV reality hit MasterChef.

The debate is traditionally shown at 1930 on the first Sunday after the election is called.

But the final of cooking show MasterChef is due to air at the same time, and up to four million Australians are expected to watch it.

The debate has now been moved forward by an hour, to 1830, to avoid a clash.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard said she understood the MasterChef fans' dilemma.

"I can understand the fascination with cooking and eating," she said.

"So I know many Australians will watch that show but I think Australians will still pay some regard to the debate and to the election campaign and what's said in it."

Bloomberg:

Masterchef Clash Forces Gillard, Abbott to Delay Australia Leaders' Debate

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s only campaign debate with Liberal-National opposition leader Tony Abbott has been rescheduled to avoid clashing with the final of the popular cooking show MasterChef.

The debate was moved to 6:30 p.m. on July 25, the National Press Club said in an e-mailed statement. The one-hour debate was originally to start an hour later, the same time as Ten Network’s broadcast of the knock-out cooking competition. Last year’s final set a ratings record when almost one in five Australians tuned in to watch.

“It says something about the stuff of real life,” Gillard told Sydney radio 2UE today when asked about the changed time. “People care about who the prime minister and who the government is, but people are also pretty keen about what’s on the dinner table.”

Twenty-four contestants were chosen in April from 8,000 applicants for the second season of MasterChef, an adaptation of the BBC reality show. They have faced 14 weeks of cooking challenges, broadcast on Ten Network Holdings Ltd. six nights a week. About 4.1 million viewers watched last year’s finale.

Enough said.

One Of The Best MasterChef Eps. in pictures

A-League vs. rest of the world? Srsly?

The world cup's over... but it seems that club football is still on. And seems like a whole lotta action is coming from Australia. But srsly? Putting our 5 year-old A-League against the likes of Everton (since 1878) and Boca Juniors (since 1905)?? The results speak for themselves:

I guess it's not THAT bad... but Sydney and Melbourne are our best teams, whereas The Toffies and CABJ, well, aren't [but they're not the worst either!] There's still more to come, though, with the 'Sydney Festival of Football' (yay. ==") The four teams competing in the Sydney Festival of Football are Sydney FC, Blackburn Rovers (English Premier League), Rangers FC (Scottish Premier League Champions) and Greek team AEK Athens FC (11 times Greek Champions).

Wonder how The Sky Blues will go...

The Big 3 in South Beach

Hi again.

Alotta stuff happened when I went overseas - but this caught my eye. I was following the news as to where LeBron's future would go. Before I left, all I knew was that he was now a free agent in the NBA. He had the choice to back to the Cleveland Cavaliers, or go to the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks or the Miami Heat. He chose the latter, announcing it on live tv. I was happy that he went to Miami. There's already Dwyane Wade (2006 Finals MVP). But it gets even better - Chris Bosh, another free agent on the loose, was also picked up by the Heat. He was probably the best player in the Toronto Raptors side from 2003-2010. It's not all going to be one-sided during the NBA 2010-11 season though... The LA Lakers (2010 NBA Champions) still have Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Ron Artest + The Boston Celtics (2010 NBA Runner-ups) still have Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo. LeBron's main goal in the NBA was to win consecutive NBA titles, and he has a very good chance with Miami Heat. But other teams still have some big guns. Next season is going to be interesting...

PRE-DIARY HK/SHANGHAI ft. WORLD EXPO

As you may or may not know, I went overseas from 1 July to 13 July. I would go to Hong Kong, then Shanghai, then back to Hong Kong, and then back home to Sydney. I was lucky enough to have some chances to use free wifi (as some of you know) around HK, but even when there was free wifi everywhere in Shanghai, fb and other social networking sites were blocked. Sooo I'm going to document my diary onto my blogg so you can get [some of] the whole picture of where I went and what I did. START: Read on...

DIARY HK/SHANGHAI ft. WORLD EXPO - DAY 1

Day 1! And we arrived at SYD airport at 7:00AM. Was sleepy. After waiting 45mins till we could check-in (coz apparently our flight check-in hadn't opened yet :S) we headed inside for breakfast. It was to be Maccas (Y)and I managed to get a view of the Emirates + Singapore Airlines A380 together. Moving onto the plane... It was going to be an 8 and 1/2 hour flight from SYD to HK on QF127. So I started flicking through what was on on the mini tv screen infront of me. Coz there was 8 and 1/2 hours to waste, I went through shows (+ their episodes) such as The Simpsons, Phineas and Ferb, Two & A Half Men, Suite Life of Zack & Cody and [most importantly] MAN VS. WILD!!! <-- There were two eps. - Arctic + Vietnam. For lunch, the plane gave me stir fry chicken, cheese + crrackers, chocolate, cola and ice-cream. For 'refreshment', there was rigantini pasta in a creamy bacon sauce and tim tam. I also managed to watch the movie The Spy Next Door starring Jackie Chan. Once at HKIA, the first thing you notice bout the HK summertime is that it is HOT and HUMID and still sunny at 7:30pm :D You could say that the weather is "ho chiu sup" [very humid]. We caught A22 to get to our hotel - the Regal Oriental Hotel Kowloon City. I've stayed here before, and it is worthy of its 4 stars. Watched a show called Ghost Lab on Discovery before sleeping - coz I was adapting to the time zone change.

DIARY HK/SHANGHAI ft. WORLD EXPO - DAY 2

Today was grandparents day. I woke up thinking that I slept in, but that's the beauty of changing time zones :) At their appartment, I just watched HK tv, and learnt that:
1) Aus changed the rules on Chinese students entering;
2) Nigeria's soccer team was banned for playing for 2 years;
3) everyone in Africa goes for Ghana;
4) snakes drink water;
5) China actually beat someone (Venezuela) 6-1 in something besides badminton (baseball);
6)Peruvian scientists have found fossils of a giant whale that lived 12mill years ago;7) Obama is left handed.

THEN I went with my 2 Yii [an auntie] to walk my uncle's dog. But first, at my uncle's house, I got the chance to use his comp + wifi, and I played around with the vuvuzela ====< When we got back to grandparent's appartment, we ate dinner. Then back at hotel room, I watched Mythbusters (Discovery) + the NED vs. BRA game.
